Yesteryear’s and the LA Bluescasters: Keeping Blues Alive

Go south of campus for a bit, find Arrow Highway and drive west until you hit Garey Avenue, take a left and head south for a few miles, take a left on 2nd Street and you’ll discover the cultural heart of the Inland Empire. True, it’s no Greenwich Village, but it’s the closest thing to a college town atmosphere within a twenty minute driving radius from the campuses and a great deal more impressive than Claremont’s Village. It’s the Arts Colony in the city of Pomona, located next to Cal Poly Pomona, and home to a mix of interesting shops with names like Funky Thangs and Sassafras, and the local rock haven The Glass House. Across the street from The Glass House, walking past the crowd of gutter punks and heading farther down the block you’ll find a building that was once home to a Woolworths, but is now known as Yesteryears, a restaurant, bar, and club whose purpose is to support live blues music. The featured band of the night was the LA Bluescasters, with Bobby Bluehouse as the opening band. |

The LA Bluescasters have put together some solid, old fashioned down and dirty blues. With guitar at the forefront of the solid backing being provided by the rhythm section, and harmonica and keyboards making their presence felt when the need arises, they have created a solid foundation on which to showcase their songs. |
